Cool summer grooves and beats, melodic sounds from New Zealand. The beach sound is warm and smooth, lyrically intelligent grooves with a South Pacific flavour.

The new album features 11 songs ranging from the acoustic road trip/trance of Coolest Light to the dense longing of Walking Wild. beach were showcase artists at the prestigious NXNE Music Festival in Toronto, Canada where they performed to sold out houses. The band is Jessie Coutts - vocals/songs, Mathurin Molgat - guitars/songs, Iain McNally - guitar/keys, Paul Pasmore - bass and Randy Cooke - drums/ percussions. Don Rooke is featured on several tracks playing Kona. The album was recorded and mixed in New Zealand and Canada and produced by Iain McNally and beach. Vocalist and co-writer Jessie Coutts spent her childhood singing to the winds of New Zealands' rugged Southland coast. Inspired by a family of musicians, she has followed her muse around the world. Her writing style is personal, full of imagery and is carried by her soothing, floating melodies. Guitarist and co-writer Mathurin Molgat has an angular take on his world and his songs are vignettes of a vagabond soul. His influences range from Jaques Brel to Caetano Veloso and back to Beaudelaire.

----------------------------------------------------------------- Press reviews:

beach is one of the gems of the beautiful South Pacific. Perfect to de-stress after life catches up with you. Favorites must be the hypnotic "Janey" , the sensual moodiness of "walking wild", the road trip acoustic "coolest light" , a quiet tear for "march angel" and the melancholic optimism of "nothing". Jessie Coutts' voice sends shivers through my speakers and her moody sexiness made a fan out of me. - Julien Calrique - CDB

...a warm breeze blows through this debut album by New Zealand band "beach". Beautiful melodies from sexy vocalist Jessie Coutts whose voice soars through 11 finely crafted songs supported by stellar musicianship. Subtle hints of Morcheeba. "4stars+" - Brendan Jimminey - Sounds Alive

Brooding, dream-like and sophisticated, beach, with it's songwriting team of Jessie Coutts and Mathurin Molgat, shimmers with musical maturity. Coutts' voice - the CDs centerpiece - sits on a bed of heavily processed guitars, keyboards and percussion at times blending to become another instrument. "Janey" features a hypnotic vocal refrain which gets under the skin. Unusual but effective song structures and loping, sometimes brooding grooves reminiscent of UK band Portishead. - Kevin Thomas- Mountain Scene
